Tour 4 – Participation

Unlike your local club, the Connection doesn’t offer a phone patch. Instead, we have border to border VHF coverage via two meter radio. What makes the Connection unique is the ease of operation. There are no complex control codes needed to operate distant repeaters – simply transmit on your local repeater frequency and you’re connected with the entire system. There are no fees to access the Connection. We don’t require you to pay for its use.

Most users are unaware of the time, energy, and funding required to support this incredible linked system. To keep the system online, the corporation meets regular obligations of several hundred dollars per month for insurance, repeater site rental, and electricity. This does not include equipment maintenance or replacement. Newcomers marvel that the system survives solely by the donations of the users. Contrary to common misconceptions, Colorado Connection Repeaters, Inc. has a small treasury. With no guarantee of income we solicit you for contributions and hope each of you conclude that using the Connection is a privilege worthy of annual financial contribution. As more users share the costs, improvements and increased coverage will take place.

Frequently, newcomers ask what size donation they should make. Suggestions range from $25 to $50 per year. There are hundreds of amateurs who use the Connection. If each one made an annual donation similar to what it takes to join their local club, the treasury would take in several thousand dollars per year. A few supporters contribute several hundred dollars per year, but we accept any amount. If you choose to use the Connection, please become one of our regular supporters and become a part of connecting Colorado via two meter radio!

Please keep in mind that the Connection is not a club, has no dues, and donate whatever you can afford. Your financial contributions, along with the many volunteers, are what keep the Connection running.
