This repeater site is currently under construction.
The 448.025 Mhz repeater site is located atop Kendall Mountain, at an elevation just over 13,200 feet, approximately 1 mile south of Silverton, Colorado. This repeater will have coverage in the northwest portion of the San Juan Mountains. These are the most rugged mountains in Colorado. Signal strength can be full scale one minute and non-existent the next due to this rugged terrain.
Due to heavy snow, this repeater was not installed in 1998. Conditions on the mountaintop prevented the work party from driving all the way to the site with all the equipment. The tower was erected and in the summer of 1999, the equipment will be installed to add the above coverage areas to the Connection.
This repeater will be UHF since the KC5CHM/R 147.375 repeater currently resides at the site. Equipment will consist of a GE Custom MVP mobile radio converted to repeater use. The repeater will run about 15 watts out of the small set of mobile duplexers, into a Comet X50 dual band antenna. The link radio is also a GE Custom MVP transceiver, running about 25 watts into the same Comet X50 antenna, linking the site via VHF to the rest of the system. The site uses MVP's for their low current requirements. Two 1000mah golf cart batteries will be housed with the repeater, charging via a bank of four large solar panels.
