Salida Repeater Site (147.285 Mhz)

Salida Repeater Site (147.285 Mhz)

The 147.285 Mhz repeater resides atop Fremont Peak at an elevation of approximately 11,700 feet, south of Salida. Coverage is reliable in South Park, Gunnison, Pueblo, and the San Luis Valley south to New Mexico. At extremes, it has been worked from east of Montrose and Blue Mesa Resevoir, on Fremont Pass near Climax, in and around Bailey on U.S. 285, and south toward Trinidad on Interstate 25.

The repeater is a GE Master II with WACOM duplexers. As with the Mt. Thorodin site, there is a UHF linking repeater here. More modest than the Master II at Mt. Thorodin, it uses a GE Custom MVP. The controller is a Link Communications RLC-1. The VHF repeater antenna is fiberglass commercial colinear. The UHF uses Diamond X50 side mounted off the tower.

The Salida site has linked to the rest of the system through several locations in past years. Currently, there is a dual band transceiver located southeast of Fairplay at the home of Ray (KC7IVB). This transceiver provides a path between Salida's UHF link and either the Leadville or Breckenridge repeater. It's handy having the ability to link to either repeater should problems arise on one or the other. The Wolf Creek Pass repeater links via UHF to this site.

Access to this site is via 4WD vehicle between July and September. Access in winter months has never been attempted. Should this repeater fail, it remains inoperative until summer access is available.
