100Hz MACHINE IN BROOMFIELD OPERATIONAL AGAIN!!
Thanks to Kerry N0URK and John N5EHP the 100hz machine in
Broomfield is again operational.
This machine provides an alternate input for users who are
'shadowed' from the main 145.310 Thoridin machine because they are too close to
the foothills (for example in the Golden or Boulder areas).
The standard tone to talk to a Connection machine is
123Hz. The Connection machine that serves the greater Denver area is
145.310 on Thoridin mountain. Users who are close to the foothills (for
example in Boulder are 'shadowed' from that machine and have trouble getting
in. The solution is an alternate 'listening' machine in Broomfield that
relays signal into the system.
To use the Broomfield, all you need to do is set up for
145.310- but transmit with a 100Hz tone instead of the Connection's standard
123Hz tone. Your signal will be received by Broomfield and relayed into
the system and ignored by Thoridin (because you are using a different tone).
This solution works best near Broomfield and around the
Boulder valley but doesn't provide the same greater Denver coverage that the
Thoridin machine does. If you plan to use this new option,
you'll want to set up separate memories for 'normal' (direct to Thoridin) and
'local' access via the Broomfield machine.
Both setups start with the same 145.31(-) frequencies.
For normal access direct using the main Thoridin machine,
the TRANSMIT tone is set to 123Hz. OPTIONALLY, you may also set your
receive tone to 123Hz.
To access the Broomfield machine, first set the same
frequencies.
Then set the TRANSMIT tone to 100HZ. Setting up tone
on the RECEIVE to your receiver requires knowing about your radio. If
your radio always uses the same tone for TRANSMIT and RECEIVE, you must DISABLE
tone for RECEIVE (so you'll be able to hear the Thoridin output that has a
123Hz tone). If your radio allows different tones for TRANSMIT and
RECEIVE, then you can optionally set the RECEIVE TONE to Thoridin's 123Hz.
We are confident the Broomfield machine will really improve
the Connection's ears in the shadowed areas near the foothills.
